Easter@Woodgate was overall a most successful event. The Woodgate Emergency Services were out in force with their biggest and best displays yet! We were all very proud of them and glad for the community to get a chance to acknowledge them and learn more about their services.
We learnt that the Friendly Grocer Family Film night has claimed a place in Woodgate's weekend's activity with over 300 attending and much fresh popcorn being eaten.
The Saturday night Woodgate Rocks was an experiment to see if there was an audience for a more grown up Saturday night activity. The answer was 'no' with only around 80 people coming out. The band Memphis Moovers were first rate and we think there were a lot of locals sitting out on their balconies enjoying the spill over of good rock music!
The band were a popular addition to the Easter Fair on Monday which is definitely the most popular event in the region on that weekend. It was the biggest Fair ever with 240 stalls and a waiting list for any vacant spaces. The weather held and it was estimated, this year with tallies from professional crowd counting devices, at over 7,000 visitors. Responses from stall holders have been overwhelmingly positive with bookings flowing in already for 2014.
The organisers, Woodgate Community Events, want to thank Events and Tourism Queensland whose funding makes the improvement of amenities and marketing possible and the Woodgate Club and other local sponsors whose support means that a quality event can be planned.
The committeee really appreciates the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the day a success. There is a growing band of great people ready to join the team at these events and more are always welcome. The organisers especially need a few strong arms to help with the end of events.
The committee were exhausted and in the debrief acknowledged that two events over the weekend is quite enough for us!
Plans are already underway for the film and the fair for 2014!
